Guys can be interested in nail art too. Recently a young guy that is a good friend of mine said he wanted me to paint some crazy mural on his nails. Not for him to keep on as a manicure, but to showcase something new and different here on my blog that I hadn't done before. Aw, such a clever way to ask! Of course, let's do this thing!
I let him totally pick his theme and he said "beaches and maybe a shark." I'm flattered that he thought I would be able to fit all of that on 1 fingernail.... but on very short guy nails that would be impossible. So I split it up a bit. Then last minute he decided he also wanted deer antlers. (He is in no way a "sissy" kind of guy. He is very outdoor-sy and loves to hunt and work on cars. A real man's man! Lol)
He said he wanted to do this as an experiment, so this is what I came up with.
A shark ready to bite!
A bit of sand and ocean with some palm leaves and coconuts showing.
Beach with an umbrella
Silhouette of a palm tree.
And the deer antlers he wanted is the Browning logo.
So there you have it, nail art on nubs is possible! I'll update with how long he kept them on when I talk to him again.
Is the issue of nail polish on men controversial to you? Do you have an opinion either way? I think it's really strange in my opinion. Not like in a negative way, it's just that you rarely see it done and it goes against social norms. I'm sure if it was a more common thing to see, then I would not think anything of it.
I hope this was interesting for my one male nail polish follower - Guy Polish Jim!
He has a blog, check it out. :)

Awesome mani!
ReplyDeleteEvery once in awhile I can get my husband to do his nails. Although the reason I do that is so he doesn't bite his nails. He was wearing Sinful Colors in Seaweed the other day and is wearing the Fantasy Makers glow in the dark.
ReplyDeleteAw, that's pretty cute! You did a great job! I think it's nice that he wanted you to do that. I don't see anything wrong with guys wanting to paint their nails. It's great that they feel confident enough to want to do that!
ReplyDeleteMy hubs lets me paint one or two of his nails occasionally, and it is usually a Cowboy's star. He's a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. Now that I have learned to use acrylic paints and have started doing some darker themes like zombies and stuff, he might let me do a full mani. But he bites his nails, so it wouldn't last long. I don't think it is bad for guys to do their nails, or have their nails done. It is a fun way to accessorize, and guys like bling too!
ReplyDeleteI agree, it is strange because you rarely see it but I think it would be great if men would be more open about polish on their nails. I can never get my man to let me even practice on him!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I think its a bit odd seeing nice polish on guys who are straight. I just feel like hell has to freeze over for them to let someone even do that. It used to be a fight to get my guy to join me at the nail salon, so I had someone to talk to. So when a guy gets his nails done I'm like 'huuh, what ever floats your boat. '
ReplyDeleteI think the only thing that keeps more guys from wearing polish is the fear of being thought of as feminine or gay. That's why there are so many guys that keep their polished toes secretly under wraps. Call it a mid life crisis or whatever, I decided life is too short to worry about what people think. I like the way my feet look when I am wearing polish. They looks so boring without it now. Why can't a guy express himself with color? If other guys knew how relaxing and enjoyable the leg and foot massage can be during a pedicure, I think more guys would go for it. Since getting pedicures on a regular basis, I have not had athletes foot or cracked skin. I also don't inflict injuries with my rough feet or nails.
ReplyDeleteI hope your friend keeps his manicure for a couple of days.
SUPER cute!
ReplyDeleteMy current bf won't even let me push his cuticles :( but an ex of mine used to let me buff his nails and give him a MANicure. Then one day I was swatching an Orly matte color, which was gunmetal grey and he was like paint my nails with it! I agreed and then he wanted to keep it on and I was lie "HELL NO!!". I should have let him keep it, it really wasn't a terrible color. I think I was too concerned what other people would think. I wish it was more acceptable for guys to wear polish.
ReplyDeleteI love it! The shark is awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing wrong with a guy loving polish! My boyfriend lets me do his cuticles and shape his nails. He loves seeing what I come up with for my manicure everyday. I bet he would even let me paint his nails. All I know is that he appreciates all of the hard work I do.
xoxox
I don't see anything wrong with it at all. Lots of guys I know wear polish on their nails
ReplyDeleteI think it's awesome when I see a guy with nail polish! It's brave, because a lot of people would not find it appropiate..
ReplyDeleteI've done nail art on my BF several times :)
I have done multiple guy friends nails (gay and straight). Its fun because they have bigger nail beds and they don't talk with their hands, so they tend to stay still for longer. Lol. My husband lets me file and buff his nails. No polish, but he said if I ever needed to do some swatching, he'd help me out. I love toe paint guy on Flickr! I found about him from Collette of mysimplelittlepleasures. His toenails are ah-mazing, and he looks great in sandals!!
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend did a tape mani once :D and also nail art on my toes. http://rainbowcreativity.blogspot.com/2011/08/space-nails-and-guest-notds.html
ReplyDeleteI got to swatch a bunch of new polishes on his toes once too since I couldn't wait to see what they looked like :D Altho it seems like it's most heavy metal guys that wear (black) nail polish without anyone thinking twice about it.
They came out really nice. How nice of him !
ReplyDeleteI know lots of men who have gotten pedicures and enjoy them, they just don't get polish. I find it refreshing to see guys wearing polish because it shows that they're comfortable expressing things they like without being ashamed. I wish more people were true to themselves like that. I love hearing all you girls say your BFs let you practice on them. That's very sweet!
ReplyDeleteToo cute! My boyfriend is always fascinated with stamping, and had me paint his nails the other day and take pictures for the blog. Of course, he's been too nervous for me to post them yet...
ReplyDeleteThat shark is killer!
ReplyDeletehaha love thiss
ReplyDeleteI love painting my guy friend's nails. Only they let me have free reign and therefore aren't as lucky to get "manly" designs.
ReplyDeleteIt's so cute!! Regards
ReplyDeleteamazing, love the shark the best :-D
