You might have seen this spelled out on other blogs, I get that, but.... you've all been wanting simple nail art tutorials. This is very simple. So here's to the newbies. You can do it. :)
This is Revlon Bubble Gum with Sinful Colors Snow Me White dots.
Step 1: Solid base color. This is a light green franken I made recently.
Step 2: Using a dotting tool, create a line of dots evenly spaced along the middle of the nail.
Step 3: Do another line to the right of the first line. Space the dots to fall between the dots in the first line.
Step 4: Repeat once again to the right of the previous line.
Step 5: Return to the middle of the nail and repeat the previous steps but this time going to the left.
Step 6: Finish out with remaining dots.
Polka dot manicures are the most simple to make and yet they always get the most attention and comments from people I interact with while wearing them. It's a little strange, but they're easy to please! So I guess I will keep doing them!
So much freedom with the many different color combinations that are out there. Try it!

I need to do some polka dot mani ASAP.

I keep thinking I should do dots, but never do... I think I will now, you're right, they're simple but so cute!
ReplyDeletepolka dots are always cute~
ReplyDeleteSimple, but very lovely... ♥
ReplyDeleteCute! I tried it a few times but obviously not in the simple way you just showed :P
ReplyDeletehow do u get your dots so uniform in size? do you pick up color for every dot? whenever i use my dotting tool i have a hard time making dots all the same size! guess i just need to practice more!
ReplyDeleteThank you for explaining the "trick"!! Dots seem simple to do, but I never managed to obtain a nice mani, not knowing how to "approach" pattern.
ReplyDeleteI'll try again now!
Really nice!! Regards
ReplyDelete@mzcherrie- I usually wipe the tip of my dotting tool and pick up new polish every 3rd dot. You're right, the polish can build up and before you know it your dots are bigger and bigger!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this!!! Are the white dots you used on the green mani the same Sinful Colors white that you used on the pink one?
ReplyDeleteGreat tutorial!! I love it!! XOXO
ReplyDeleteWhat I need to see is the actual tool dipping in the polish and placing the dots on the nail-that is the part I can't figure out-do you dip in the bottle or pour some out on a plate?
ReplyDeleteNiceee! Great tutoriaal, thanks. Kisses
ReplyDeleteHeh! I am always in the need for these basic tutorials. If it's nail art I flunk generally - also I don't like to take a ton of time to make a big creation - so dots are great for me!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what is a good dotting tool to buy. I read were someone uses the handle end of a cheap art brush for their dotting tool and thought I might try that.
ReplyDelete@Krissy - I actually used China Glaze Refresh Mint for the dots on the green mani. I forgot to mention that. :(
ReplyDelete@Fingers - I pour a small blob of polish onto a paper plate and then dip my dotting tool into it. Usually dipping the entire "ball" end completely into the polish.
@beachgal - I got mine off of Ebay, I also know they sell them at the bornprettystore.com I've also heard of some taking a bobby pin and straightening it out and using the knobby end of it.
So cute! Love this tutorial!
ReplyDeleteHow cute! Can't wait to try this out. I also really live the green franken.
ReplyDeletei love polka dots :D the colours are awesome
