So this has been months in the making. I have finally completely the painstaking process of painting cartoon characters on 204 false fingernails! I got it all glued down and now it's for you to see and let me know what you think!
Here is my dilemna..... I plan on putting it in an art exhibit that is held in March. I can choose to put a price on it in hopes that it will sell. Do you think it would sell? How much do you think I should price it for? I always end up underestimating myself.... so what do you think? What do I name it? I think it should somehow include manicure, fingernails, or something. I'm afraid they won't know what it is otherwise. Nostalgia? Childhood? Cartoon? I am clueless. So I'm looking... no wait, begging for your suggestions! Just comment below. :)
Finished and in the shadowbox frame:
(Please click to enlarge and see their full glory)
Without the frame so you may can see better:
I'll try to go through them top to bottom and left to right to provide links to the original post and if it includes a tutorial or not. I guess I'm just that nice.... ;)
Aristocats Tutorial Format
The Little Mermaid (still my favorite!) Tutorial Format
(Please let me know if any of the links don't work, thanks!)
I have 7 nails extra! So some characters didn't make the cut. But that's ok. I figure since I finished this WAY sooner than I anticipated... I probably have time to keep it going and make enough nails to fill a second shadow box! There are so many great cartoons I haven't even gotten to yet..... ;)
*UPDATE*
I did not win any awards for it, but my piece was purchased! Someone bought it for $500 making it the most expensive piece that actually ended up selling. So I was very proud! Of that money, a portion of it went to the organization hosting the event and I got the rest. I'm very happy to try and come up with something for next year.

That is so fantastically amazing!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow!
ReplyDeleteYou did and Excellent job.
Oh my.. this is soooo amazing! Unfortunately I have no idea how much this would sell. Goodluck though! Beautiful!
ReplyDeletethis is amazing, and i would definatley buy this, lol i have no clue how much for though, depends if this art exhibition is full of expensive stuff then you can charge a high price, or how about putting it up for an auction after seeing how much interest you get, but i have to say this looks amazing and you are incredibly talanted : )
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable. I'm in awe of your talent!
ReplyDeleteSooooooo cool!
ReplyDeleteSo it's finally ready! It looks absolutely awesome. I wouldn't mind having this on my wall. :D
ReplyDeletethis is amazing idea and execution. I think you could sell it if you don't feel the need to have it in your possession. As for the price - I have no clue about pricing but you should value your work - with how much would you be happy? how much is it worth to you? put that price and you have no regrets. Expensive is relative in art world, your time and above all uniqueness matters here.
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies! I need help with NAMING it too!
ReplyDelete@nail loopy- the other ppl that put stuff in the exhibit have mixed opinions of their art. It's a beginner to expert exhibit, so all skill ranges. Some ppl put $1000 price tag on theirs, while some say $25.... so that makes it even harder for me to tell where mine falls within that range!
@hermetic - how much would make me happy? A million dollars. Lol. I think it's definitely worth several hundred dollars just because of the amount of time it took to paint it all.
omg... now when they all stand together... amazing :-D
ReplyDeletei wouldn't sell them, i'd put them on the wall by the bed... just to start day by looking at something great ;-D
wish i could draw like this :-(
OMG
ReplyDeleteI would not sell them, it's priceless
I really love that!
WOW
this is beyond words, so awesome! =)
ReplyDeleteUm Nailstalgia? I would love to be able to do that, those are amazing.
ReplyDeleteWOW! You did finish this quickly! It's incredible. I would call it something along the lines of "80s Baby" or "Growing up in the 80s"... but that's just me! Do you really want to sell it? Do not underprice it! You have put so many precious hours into making it. Maybe you could make extras of some characters and sell single nails framed? You could sell to may people that way and they could all feel like the own part of the big masterpiece... I don't even know if the art show would allow that, but I like that idea!
ReplyDeleteHaha I like Gabby's idea of Nailstalgia. I was trying to think of something along the lines of "Childhood is at your Fingertips" or something of the sort. I think you could charge at least $100! It's fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI love it! It is completely amazing now that it is all together like that. I have been seeing your progress for months and I am just in awe.
ReplyDeleteAs for selling it...
1. I don't think you should do it, as no one in that exhibition could value the amount of work that you put into it.
2. If you insist on selling this, I think it would be more benefitial to sell it at a vanue such as ebay, just because you can start with a price that you could be happy with, and let it go from there. If you catch the eye of some of the collectors... who knows where you could end up!
DO NOT UNDERVALUE YOUR WORK!
We know how much work has gone onto this, just need to find someone that does as well.
And good luck! Please let us know how it turns out.
This is so cool, especially because I know almost all the characters. Good luck selling it, I'm sure you'll find a buyer ;)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on finishing it! I am almost sad that you're done with it though, I loved watching the progress! As for pricing it, I think it depends a lot on the type of art exhibit it will be in. If you have an idea of what other type of items will be there and how much they'll be going for, you might be able to get a better idea of what is appropriate to ask. With all the amazing work you put into it, I think you could pretty easily get $200 (from uniqueness alone).
ReplyDeletethis is beautiful! congratulations on its completion, you're amazing
ReplyDeleteWell it's kind of a pun, but what about "Thumbnail Nostaligia" (as in Thumbnail sketches).
ReplyDeleteAnd about the price: if it were me, I'd do a little comparison research and see what other artists are charging for comparable work (comparable in size and medium).
It is amazing, by the way! :)
That looks SO amazing!! Well done!!!
ReplyDeleteHoly cow! This is so freaking impressive!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! And this would be very expensive I think. Can't put a price on it, because I wouldn't sell it, but keep it. Al that work...
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed by the work you've put into this, it's simply amazing and incredibly unique!
ReplyDeleteI love "Nailstalgia" and "Childhood at your fingertips" as said above, and I think you could sell it for 600-800 dollars cause it looks awesome, it's so unique and you've really commited yourself to this project. I think you totally deserve that.
WOW!! My favorite are the puppets and the little mermaid. Gorgeous work. Regards!
ReplyDeleteawesome!! i'm proud of you! hehe
ReplyDeletei like the idea of "nailstalgia"
You sure have been busy! Your work is fantastic...well impressed, me.
ReplyDeleteWOW. So incredibly amazing. You are sucjh an inspiration to so many of us. Good luck eith the exhibition
ReplyDeleteI would ask for at least $1000.
ReplyDeleteWOW! I hope I can also make something like these to immortalize my nail designs. You clearly have an amazing talent! :) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWow that is cool! I don't think I would've wanted to sell it since you spent so much time making it. Altho I could never make one of those nails in the first place haha.
ReplyDeleteAmaaaaaazing, love it!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you want to sell it, please don't sell it for less then 500, they should also pay you for your time and effort.
And I voted for the tite Childhood is at your Fingertips because the titles about the 80's are not suitable for all images ( Jhonny Bravo, Fairly odd parents, etc ).
I like Childhood is at your fingertips as well... and I see your point. I just wanted to put up each of the suggestions I had gotten ;)
ReplyDeleteThis is all so incredible I am liking what people have suggested with "childhood at your fingertips" I think you should price it around $500-600 that's about $2.50-$3.00 a nail when you think about it..Each of those nails are so incredibly done. I hope that I will get as good as you one day. Must practice more!
ReplyDeleteIncredible, what a fantastic piece of art you have created. If your not sure if you want to sell it, put a nice high price on it, at least $1500, if someone buys it great, if not nothing lost. Both nailstalgia and Childhood at your fingertips are very good.
ReplyDeleteLove this.
ReplyDeleteChildhood, Nailed
this is absolutely amazing now once its all finished, definitely try for a second one ;) I loved seeing every one of these come to life and cant wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteshel xx
Congratulations on finishing this one! Given all the time and labor put into this, I'd say this was worth at least several hundred dollars. But maybe you'll change your mind and keep it for yourself :)
ReplyDeleteTHAT IS SO AWESOME!!!
ReplyDeleteOh waw !
ReplyDeleteyou did an awesome job !
What about "finger food" ? or "It's just like finger food" or whatever ? :)
